The Centre for Digital Healthcare Technology (CDHT) is creating an exciting MedTech innovation ecosystem to accelerate the design, development and commercialisation of next-generation medical technologies and digital healthcare solutions.

Led by Ulster University, CDHT brings together academic researchers, clinicians, industry partners and entrepreneurs to transform how healthcare innovations are developed and deployed. By co-locating expertise across engineering, data science and clinical practice, CDHT enables faster, safer and more efficient routes from concept to clinic.

This capital build project will deliver a bespoke, state-of-the-art Open Innovation Centre and Community Living Lab on Frederick Street, adjacent to Ulster University’s Belfast campus, alongside a new Clinical Living Lab within the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. Through these facilities, CDHT will provide end-to-end support for innovators to ideate, prototype, test and validate new products. Its specialist capabilities span data analytics, artificial intelligence, surgical robotics, image-guided therapy, diagnostics, design and simulation, and vital signs monitoring.

By fostering collaboration between academia, industry and the health service, CDHT is strengthening Northern Ireland’s MedTech economy, creating high-value jobs, and driving inclusive growth across the region. The centre positions Belfast and Northern Ireland at the forefront of global healthcare innovation and research, ensuring that local expertise and technologies contribute to better patient outcomes and healthier societies worldwide.
